Sengoku Seki was an industry: smiths organized under their tutelary Kasuga shrine, arming the war bands of central Japan. Magoroku Kanemoto’s sanbonsugi and the finest Kanesada work prove quality survived inside mass production.
This antique Japanese katana is a rare work by Hachiya Kanesada from Mino province, dating to the Tenbun era (around 1532) of the Muromachi period. Though slender, its lightweight design and fine craftsmanship exemplify the Hachiya Kanesada school's reputation for both beauty and functionality. This authentic (shoshin) Kanesada blade, likely from the fourth generation, is a treasured piece reflecting the tumultuous feudal wars of its era.
