This is a tanto koshirae (mounting for a short sword) featuring an inro kizami kin nashi-ji nuri saya (scabbard with gold pear-skin lacquer inro-style carving). The scabbard has a slightly widened and rounded end, reminiscent of an ebi-saya (shrimp scabbard). The tsuka (handle) is finished in black ishime-ji (stone-grain finish) for grip, with a narrow, tapered shape and a fine katate-maki (single-hand wrap) for an exquisite fit in the palm.
