About the maker
Ishido Ippo一峯
This is a rare and important katana by Shodai Ippô, the founder of the Ômi branch of the Ishidô school, working in the early Edo period. Unusually for the school, this blade is firmly in the Yamato tradition, featuring a beautifully forged itame-hada mixed with masame-hada and a bright suguha hamon with distinctive uchinoke. The sword is in exceptional condition, preserved in shirasaya with a gold-wrapped habaki and includes a sayagaki by Dr. Sato Kanzan.
