Description

This is a katana by Shibata Ka, a prominent Gendaito smith from Akita Prefecture. The inscription indicates it was made using leftover steel from a sword dedicated to the 700th anniversary of Emperor Go-Toba, commissioned by the Hirota family. The blade exhibits beautiful and moist jigane, reminiscent of Bizen Kagemitsu from the Kamakura period, and is considered an excellent example of his work.
