This katana was made by Kiyonao, whose real name is Takashi Matsukawa, in 1985. He was born in Nagano Prefecture in 1955 and studied under Miyairi Kiyomune, the brother of Living National Treasure Miyairi Akihira. Kiyonao is a highly skilled smith, having received numerous awards at the NBTHK's new sword exhibitions, and specializes in copying Soshu masters, particularly Sadamune, as exemplified by this piece.
