This is a katana made by Kurihara Akihide in July 1944 at Sobudai. Kurihara Akihide was from Kanma village in Aso district, Tochigi prefecture, and was a former member of the House of Representatives. He studied sword making under Inagaki Masao, a student of Suishinshi Masahide, and trained over 50 students, including Living National Treasures Miyairi Shohei and Amada Akitsugu, laying the foundation for the modern sword making world.
