
An iron tsuba from the Akasaka school, mid-Edo period. The tsuba features a tomoe (swirl) design, a traditional Japanese pattern used in family crests and religious symbols. The design is executed in openwork (sukashi) on a thick iron plate with visible forging patterns on the rim. This tsuba received Hozon certification from the NBTHK in 2012.
