This circle-shaped iron Tsuba is recognized by The Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords, which is known as NBTHK. A shape of Kozuchi/Koduchi (小槌, mallet) is engraved with openwork, which is called Sukashi (透かし) technique. Kozuchi is known as one the items called Takara zukushi (宝尽くし). Takara zukushi is the combination of several treasures. Each item has a meaning and some people believed these treasures would bring good fortune. For example, the Uchide-no-Koduchi (打ち出の小槌, mallet of good luck) would fulfill one’s wish, or defeat one’s enemy. It is well-known that the Daikokuten (大黒天, god of wealth), who is the member of the Shichifukujin (七福神, the Seven Gods of Good Fortune), brings this mallet. Each member of Shichifuku-Jin bestows various blessings. Daikokuten is primarily known as the god of bountiful harvests. It is believed this god bestows contentment of heart, contentment of savings, and contentment of life on those who believe. He wears a hood, holds a large bag, and brings a Uchide-no Koduchi in his hand. Authentication Paper They authenticated the Tsuba on July 7th in the 4th year of Reiwa (2022). They appraised it as Hozon Tousougu, the Tsuba worth preserving for Japanese society.
