Su-mon Tsuba Mei: "Masahiro" Maru-gata, Tetsu-migaki-ji, Kaku-mimi koniku Tate-haba: 81mm, Yoko-haba: 80mm, Kasane: 6mm, Weight: 198g (All measurements are approximate.) Accompanied by a certificate from the Nippon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai (NBTHK). A very rare tsuba with excellent tetsu-aji by the tosho Masahiro. Based on the mei-buri, I believe this to be Soshu-ju Masahiro. Soshu-ju Masahiro was a tosho whose grandfather, Sadahiro, served Hojo Soun as an okakae-ko (retained swordsmith) forging swords in the Odawara castle town. 58,000 Yen (Tax included)

About the NBTHK›

The NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) is a public-interest incorporated foundation founded in 1948 and supervised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō); it is based at the Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo. Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit. NBTHK papers are the most widely recognized standard of authentication for Japanese swords and fittings.
