Unusual nanban tsuba
€500
18th century
This is an unusual nanban tsuba of unknown origin, decorated in a style reminiscent of sawasa export wares. The tsuba features carvings of lions and dragons with gold overlay, possibly made by nanban-style carvers in Yamashiro. The kogai-hitsu-ana is plugged with shakudō, and the piece is of better quality than most of this genre.
