The twentieth century nearly killed the craft twice: wartime distortion, then the occupation ban. The NBTHK’s founding in 1948 and licensed forging from 1953 rebuilt the sword as an art, crowned by Living National Treasures and the mukansa rank.
This is a modern wakizashi by Kunitada, a swordsmith from Omuta City, Fukuoka Prefecture, known for winning numerous awards at modern Japanese sword exhibitions. The blade features a tightly forged itame-hada with a gunome-choji hamon, and is in very good condition with no noticeable flaws. It comes in a shirasaya and is an excellent candidate for a custom koshirae.
