This is a long antique Japanese katana from the late Edo period, featuring a bold and highly regular gunome temper. It is unsigned and unattributed, but is in good polish with a healthy boshi and an untouched tang. The sword is dressed in a coherent set of period iron fittings in the Higo manner, with a black leather tsukamaki.
