This is a small iron tsuba by Aizu Shoami from the late Edo period, featuring an elegant design of butterflies, peonies, and karashishi (Chinese lions) using suemon-zogan and iroe techniques. The three-dimensional peonies are crafted with silver and gold iroe, while the powerful karashishi are rendered in high-relief carving. The excellent condition and sophisticated composition highlight the refined aesthetics and advanced metalworking skills of Aizu Shoami.
