Weight excluding saya: 1191g. Blade only weight: 823g. It has arrived—a katana by Bizen no Kuni Osafune Sukesada, a name synonymous with the Japanese sword. This sword was crafted in the 6th year of Tensho (1578) during the Muromachi period (446 years ago). It was made exactly when Oda Nobunaga was fighting to unify the realm: three years after the famous Battle of Nagashino, where the allied forces of Oda Nobunaga and Tokugawa Ieyasu defeated Takeda Katsuyori using firearms; four years before the Honnoji Incident where Oda Nobunaga was destroyed by Akechi Mitsuhide; and in the very year that Uesugi Kenshin, feared as the Tiger of Echigo, passed away. It is a sword born at the height of the Sengoku period. The sugata of this blade features koshi-zori with a wide moto-mihaba and a distinct difference from the saki-mihaba. It exhibits a somewhat deep sori and an extended kissaki, presenting the magnificent and robust appearance of a Bizen-to. The jigane is forged in itame-hada, displaying a faint midare-utsuri on the ji, revealing the unique and tasteful steel characteristic of Bizen blades. The hamon is a nioide-deki mixed with nie, featuring a congested notare-midare with gunome-ba mixed in complex patterns; it is a magnificent blade that looks as though it could cut through anything. The grand koshirae, featuring a silver-clad habaki depicting Mt. Fuji from the Edo period—a level of craftsmanship that cannot be replicated today—adds an extra layer of splendor to this Sukesada sword. On this occasion, an elderly connoisseur has entrusted us with this piece, saying, "I have grown old, so please pass this on to the next generation at a low price." Therefore, we are offering this masterpiece koto by Bizen no Kuni Osafune Sukesada, over 400 years old, at a special bargain price even lower than that of a gendaito. Please enjoy this opportunity.
