Description

It has appeared, it has appeared! Although it is *mumei*, a *tanto* passed down through generations of an old family as Kyo Tanba no Kami Yoshimichi has emerged. The first generation Kyo Tanba no Kami Yoshimichi, accompanied by his father Kanemichi—who claimed to be a ninth-generation descendant of Shizu Saburo Kaneuji—moved to the capital in February of Bunroku 2 with his three brothers, including Kanemichi. On December 7, Bunroku 4, he received the title of Tanba no Kami. This *tanto* is *mumei*, but it is thought to be the work of the third generation Mishina Tokuzaemon. This *tanto*, dating to around Kanbun 2 (1662) (364 years ago), exhibits a *hira-zukuri* form with *sori*. The *jigane* is a powerfully forged *itame-hada*, and *ohada*—evidence of the forging process—appears in the *ji*. The *hamon* is a *notare-midare* in *nioi-deki* with *ko-nie*, mixed with *gunome*; above the *ha*, the family’s traditional *sudare*-style blade is tempered, showing great skill and spirit (*haki*). It is truly a great regret that such a spirited *tanto* is *mumei*. The *koshirae* is also a luxurious *tanto-koshirae* with *fuchi-kashira* and *kojiri* featuring a dragon-in-clouds design on a *tetsu-ji* (iron) base; though the fittings are *mumei*, they add further splendor to this Tanba no Kami Yoshimichi *tanto*. This time, we received this *tanto* from an old family who has cherished it for generations. As they have grown old, they asked us to pass it on at a low price to someone who will treasure it. Because of this, there is occasionally a slight catching sensation when inserting the *toshin* into the *saya*, but while this is not a problem at all for a *tanto*, we are offering it at a special, ultra-bargain price. Please do enjoy it.
