About the maker
Uda Kunimune國宗
It has appeared, it has appeared! A masterpiece has appeared that will truly surprise everyone. This sword is a work by the famous smith Uda Kunimune of Etchu, from around the Meio era of the Muromachi period (1492) (532 years ago). It is an ancient, ancient work from the time of Ashikaga Yoshizumi, the 11th Shogun of the Muromachi Bakufu. It is a sword from the exact same period when the first generation Kanemoto was active in Seki. The Uda smiths originated from Uda in Yamato province and moved to Etchu (Toyama Prefecture) around the Bunpo era at the end of the Kamakura period (1317) (707 years ago); the mei of Uda Kunimune was inherited for generations by the descendants of the first generation Kunimitsu. The sugata of this sword features a high shinogi, a wide motohaba, and a wide sakihaba, presenting a grand and magnificent appearance. The jigane is a powerful forging of itame-hada mixed with masame-hada. The hamon is a bright, high-aspected o-gunome midare-ba with nioi and ko-nie extending from the moto to the saki, with gunome-no-ashi within the ha. The boshi is deep and yakisage all the way to the mune, resulting in a magnificent masterpiece with a truly spirited blade. It has been said since ancient times that the masterpieces of Uda stand shoulder-to-shoulder with the masterpieces of Bizen Osafune, and this sword is truly a grand masterpiece that surpasses even those of Bizen Osafune. On this occasion, an elderly collector has entrusted this to us, saying, "I have grown old, so please pass this on to the next generation at a low price." Therefore, we are offering it at a special, exceptionally low price.
