Description

Weight (toshin only): 690g It has arrived, it has arrived—a magnificent and superior meito by Kaneiwa has arrived. Swords by Kaneiwa have been famous since ancient times, but they are few in number, making this sword precious. According to the sayagaki by Mr. Michihiro Tanobe (Tanzan-sensei), the former Vice Director of the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai and Japan's most famous appraiser, this sword is ubu-nakago with a 2-character mei. However, because a bo-hi was carved through in later generations, the left half of the mei can be read as "Kaneiwa." The sugata features a wide mihaba, an o-kissaki, and a shallow sori, presenting a powerful and grand appearance. The jigane is forged in itame-hada. The hamon consists of angular patterns, yahazu-ba, and togari-ba mixed in a vigorous midare-ba, with prominent tobiyaki in sections taking on a hitatsura style. It is a wonderful sword that exhibits the characteristics of Seki smiths around the Tensho era. It is a meito by Kaneiwa that has been highly praised in this manner. This sword was crafted around Tensho 3 (1575) during the Muromachi period (450 years ago), exactly at the time of the Battle of Nagashino, where the allied forces of Oda Nobunaga and Tokugawa Ieyasu fought Takeda Katsuyori in the first battle decided by firearms. It is a meito for which we must be grateful that it has been preserved so kenzen for so many years. On this occasion, an elderly sukisha (connoisseur) entrusted us with this sword, saying, "I have grown old, so please pass this Kaneiwa sword, which has been handed down in my family for generations, to a younger person at an affordable price." As the owner personally requested the sayagaki from Tanobe-sensei, it is an authentic meito without any doubt. Because the togi is an old polish, as you can see, the current appearance is not at its best, but there is no mistake that it is a magnificent meito. Due to the owner's kindness, we are offering it at a special bargain price of half its value. Please by all means enjoy this wonderfully precious meito by Kaneiwa.
