Weight: Toshin only 773g It has arrived, it has arrived—a masterpiece by Yamato no Daijo Kunitake has appeared. This is a wonderfully precious and rare work, as his output was limited due to the Meiji Haitorei (Sword Abolishment Edict), and its oshigata is even recorded in the "Shinshinto Taikan." While the first generation Yamato no Daijo Kunitake was a master smith of the Edo Shinto period around the Shotoku era (1712, 314 years ago), this lineage of prestigious smiths continued for generations. This particular Yamato no Daijo Kunitake received the title of Yamato no Daijo in the 2nd year of Keio (1866, 160 years ago) at the end of the Bakufu; this sword is a masterpiece specially crafted to commemorate the receiving of that title. He was a master smith who was active during the turbulent Bakumatsu period alongside contemporaries such as Sa Yukihide, Koyama Munetsugu, and Kurihara Nobuhide. This sword is a masterpiece crafted as a utsushi of the representative Japanese sword, Masamune. The sugata shows a magnificent and excellent form characteristic of the Nanbokucho period, with little difference between the moto-mihaba and saki-mihaba and an extended kissaki. The jigane displays a large itame-hada and mokume-hada with chikei appearing in the ji. The hamon is a nioi-deki with nie-deki gunome-midare in the style of Masamune, featuring a wonderfully large amount of kinsuji within the ha. It is a spirited blade and a supreme masterpiece truly worthy of commemorating Kunitake's appointment as Yamato no Daijo. We have received this sword from an old sukisha (connoisseur) who has cherished it dearly, but who said, "I have grown old, so please pass this on at a low price to someone who will take good care of it." The Showa 26 "Daimyo Registration" from Aomori Prefecture is also precious. We are offering this at a special bargain price. Please enjoy this masterpiece by Yamato no Daijo Kunitake, a Masamune utsushi recorded in the "Shinshinto Taikan."
