This tsuba features a Shippo (seven treasures) pattern, symbolizing harmony and good fortune, encircling the rim with a Rai-mon (thunder pattern) from ancient China. It is attributed to the Edo Higo school, specifically the Kumagai group, who served the Hosokawa family and resided in Yotsuya, Edo. The tsuba is made of iron with nunome-zogan inlay, weighs 124g, and is in excellent condition with no signs of use, making it ideal for appreciation.

We could not find an authenticity certificate on the seller’s listing. Japanese swords and fittings are normally papered by the NBTHK (or the NTHK). Without one, the attribution is the seller’s own assessment and has not been independently verified — treat it with caution and ask the dealer about certification before buying.
