This is a large and thick tsuba with a gently rounded square shape. The seppadai area is carved out, featuring a masu-gata design on the front and chrysanthemums on the back, with a raised rim adorned with ayasugi patterns. The hammered texture remaining on the uncarved ground adds depth to the design, complemented by gold nunome-zogan of paulownia arabesque on the masu-gata and silver nunome-zogan on the chrysanthemums, creating a yin-yang effect. The robust construction with deep rust color and well-executed forging, combined with understated decoration, makes this a charming piece of Edo Higo work.

Without one, the attribution is the seller’s own assessment and has not been independently verified — treat it with caution and ask the dealer about certification before buying.
