The mihaba is wide, the kasane is thick, and the sori is moderate. It has a powerful and dignified appearance. 【Jitetsu】 Itame-hada mixed with Mokume-hada. The hada is well-defined with abundant jinie and chikei. 【Hamon】 Based on Notare mixed with Gunome. The nioiguchi is deep and bright with thick nie. Sunagashi and kinsuji appear frequently within the ha. 【Boshi】 Midare-komi with a sharp, long kaeri. 【Koshirae】 Fuchi-Kashira: Shakudo-nanako ground, Takabori carving of autumn insects with gold iro-e. Menuki: Shakudo ground, design of a dragon with gold iro-e. Tsuba: Round iron tsuba with openwork (sukashi) design. Saya: Black roiro lacquer finish. 【Description】 This sword is attributed to the Naoe Shizu school, which was founded by Kaneuji, one of the Masamune Jittetsu (Ten Students of Masamune), after he moved from Yamato to Shizu in Mino province. His students later relocated to Naoe, hence the name. This work exhibits the characteristic Soshu-den style inherited from Kaneuji, featuring a grand sugata with a dynamic hamon rich in nie and kinsuji. The jitetsu is robust, showing a beautiful texture that reflects the high skill of the Naoe Shizu smiths. It is a masterpiece that combines the sharpness of Mino tradition with the artistic flair of the Soshu tradition.
