Description

Weight of blade only: 700g It has arrived, it has arrived—when I first beheld this sword, I felt a deep sense of emotion, as if witnessing the true, awe-inspiring power of the Nihonto. Because it was originally mounted in a Meiji-era general’s saber-style gunto koshirae, the nakago has been shaved and the Sukesada mei has been erased. However, I was profoundly moved by the high level of skill displayed in this blade: the powerful itame-hada forging, the high and rhythmic hamon, and the abundant hataraki within the temper line. It is a sword that brings the sudden, overwhelming sensation of a masterpiece from the Bishu Osafune smiths—the very synonym for Nihonto—appearing right before one's eyes. This sword was crafted around the Eiroku era of the Muromachi period (1560, 466 years ago), exactly during the height of the Sengoku Jidai when Oda Nobunaga defeated the great lord of Tokai, Imagawa Yoshimoto, at Okehazama and began his quest to unify the realm. The sugata of this blade is healthy (kenzen), featuring a slight koshi-zori with a distinct difference between the moto-mihaba and saki-mihaba, and a chu-kissaki, presenting the grand and excellent form of a Bizen-to. The jigane is a well-kneaded itame-hada forged with great strength, exhibiting the unique and tasteful quality of Bizen Osafune steel. The hamon is a magnificent, spirited gunome-choji in typical nioi-deki with ko-nie, fired rhythmically from moto to saki, resulting in a blade that looks exceptionally sharp and powerful. Having received this blade from an elderly connoisseur who said, "I have grown old, so please pass this on at a low price to someone who will treasure it," we are offering this emotionally stirring masterpiece by the koto smith Bishu Osafune Sukesada from over 400 years ago at a special, exceptionally low price—cheaper than a gendaito. Please do not miss this opportunity to enjoy it.
