This is a tanto made by Amata Akitsugu, a Living National Treasure and one of the highest-ranking contemporary swordsmiths. Crafted in 1997, it was exhibited at the 'Japanese Craftsmanship and Beauty' exhibition organized by the Agency for Cultural Affairs. The blade features a bright and clear suguha hamon with a beautifully turned back boshi, and a finely forged ko-itame hada, showcasing a perfect harmony of form, hamon, and jigane. The meticulous polish by Living National Treasure Nagayama Mitsukane further enhances its beauty.
