Description

This is a pair of menuki from the Edo period, attributed to the Kyo-Kanagushi school. They feature a design of lions within a round crest, executed in gold overlay on a deep black shakudo ground. The design incorporates a 'hijosashi' (ruler with a groove), a motif often seen in menuki with family crests.
