Description

1051gr without the saya. It has arrived, it has arrived—a meito by the famous swordsmith Seishinshi Sadatoshi, a reproduction of the Bizen no Kuni Osafune O-Kanemitsu. The swordsmith Seishinshi Sadatoshi’s real name is Kojima Hiroshi. He resided in Komatsushima City, Tokushima Prefecture. Born in Showa 4. He was a pupil of his father, Genbusai Nagatoshi. His father Nagatoshi was a super-famous swordsmith during the war, renowned for forging the sharpest cutting swords in Japan. Sadatoshi also displayed excellent skill in the Bizen-den style; a story has been passed down that once, when one of Sadatoshi's swords was made mumei and submitted for shinsa by the Nihon Bijutsu Token Hozon Kyokai, it was appraised as the work of the master smith Koyama Munetsugu. Upon hearing this, Sadatoshi was reportedly frustrated, saying it was regrettable to be mistaken for someone of Munetsugu's level—such was the caliber of the swords he produced. This katana is a reproduction of the famous meito from the Kamakura period, Bizen no Kuni Osafune Kanemitsu. The sugata shows a wide motohaba with a slight difference to the sakihaba, presenting a goso (magnificent/grand) appearance. The jigane is a wonderful, well-forged ko-itame hada, displaying a powerful steel. The horimono consists of deeply carved bo-hi, which is superb. The hamon is a nioi-deki with ko-nie—rarely seen in gendaito—reproducing the O-Kanemitsu style with gunome-midare mixed with spirited, pointed ha, brilliantly capturing the essence of O-Kanemitsu. This time, we received this sword from an elderly connoisseur who originally commissioned it directly because of his love for O-Kanemitsu. As he has grown older, he asked us to pass it on at a low price to someone who will cherish it. Therefore, we are offering it at a special bargain price. Please enjoy this meito O-Kanemitsu reproduction by Tokushima Prefecture’s pride, the swordsmith Seishinshi Sadatoshi.
