It has arrived, it has arrived—a precious *wakizashi* by Bishu Osafune Yukimitsu, featuring a rare date inscription from the 3rd year of Eikyo (1431) (528 years ago) during the early Muromachi period. This was a time when the 11th head of the Ouchi clan, Ouchi Morimi—one of the leading *daimyo* of the western provinces based in Suo and Nagato, who later served as *shugo* of Buzen and Chikuzen—became a powerful lord. He was renowned for his cultural refinement, being well-versed in Zen and Confucianism and associating with Zen monks of the Kyoto Gozan. This precious Bishu Osafune Yukimitsu *wakizashi* was crafted exactly around the time of the great incident in the western provinces when Ouchi Morimi fought and was defeated by the Otomo and Kikuchi clans of Kyushu. Works by Bishu Osafune Yukimitsu are few in number even among Bizen Osafune smiths, making this *wakizashi* wonderfully rare; Yukimitsu was a swordsmith of the Kozori lineage that continued from the Nanbokucho period in Bizen. The *sugata* of this *wakizashi* features a wide *moto-mihaba* and a wide *saki-mihaba*, exhibiting a *unukubi-zukuri* shape where the *shinogi-ji* is thinned from the center. The *jigane* is a powerful forging of *ko-itame hada* mixed with *mokume hada*, displaying *chikei* in the *ji*. From the base, a large, bow-shaped *bo-utsuri* appears magnificently up to the *shinogi-suji*, adding great character. The *horimono* consists of a *koshi-hi* and a *naginata-hi*, skillfully carved. The *hamon* is in *nioi-deki* with abundant *ko-nie*, a *suguha* style blade tempered evenly and splendidly. On this occasion, an elderly connoisseur has entrusted this to us, saying, "I have grown old, so please pass this Bishu Osafune Yukimitsu *wakizashi* to a successor at an affordable price." Therefore, we are offering it at a special, exceptionally low price. Please do enjoy it.
