Weight (excluding saya): 1075g The creator of this Bizen no Kuni Osafune Nagamitsu utsushi, swordsmith Seishinshi Sadatoshi, was born Kojima Hiroshi. He resided in Komatsushima City, Tokushima Prefecture. Born in Showa 4 (1929), he was the pupil of his father, Genbusai Nagatoshi. His father, Nagatoshi, was particularly famous during the war for forging the sharpest cutting swords in Japan. Sadatoshi also demonstrated excellent skill in the Bizen-den style. There is a story passed down that once, one of Sadatoshi's swords had its mei removed and was submitted for Tokubetsu Kicho Token shinsa, where it was attributed as a work by Koyama Munetsugu. Upon hearing this, he reportedly expressed frustration, saying it was regrettable to have his work mistaken for someone "only as good as" Munetsugu—a testament to the high quality of his craftsmanship. This sword is an utsushi of a famous masterpiece by Osafune Nagamitsu of Bizen Province from the Kamakura period. The sugata shows a wide motohaba with a slight difference at the sakihaba, presenting a grand and powerful form. The jigane is a wonderfully forged, strong ko-itame hada. The horimono consists of deeply carved, magnificent bo-hi. The hamon is a masterfully hardened gunome-midare with rounded heads in the style of Nagamitsu, executed in nioi-deki with jinie, a quality rarely seen in modern swords. On this occasion, an elderly collector has entrusted us with this piece, asking that it be passed on to a younger generation at a low price due to their age. As there are some areas of light ususabi (thin rust), we are offering it at a specially discounted price. Please enjoy this masterpiece Nagamitsu utsushi by Seishinshi Sadatoshi—a pride of Tokushima Prefecture—forged as an auspicious Oshigatsu-uchi (New Year's forging), the likes of which are rarely seen today.
