Weight of blade alone: 626g It has arrived, it has arrived—a precious masterpiece by Echizen Shimousa Daijo Fujiwara Kanemasa from the Edo period, around the Enpo era (1673, 353 years ago), which replicates the Bizen no Kuni Fukuoka Ichimonji style of the Kamakura period. The swordsmith Kanemasa was the son of Echizen Kanenori, a master smith under the patronage of Yuki Hideyasu, the second son of Tokugawa Ieyasu and adopted son of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, who was the lord of the 620,000-koku Echizen Domain. This sword is a masterpiece replicating Kamakura period Fukuoka Ichimonji, bearing the precious soe-mei of "Echizen-ju." The sugata exhibits a grand and powerful form with a wide motohaba and a wide sakihaba. The jigane is forged in itame-hada with abundant ji-nie appearing on the ji, and the horimono consists of skillfully carved bo-hi. The hamon is a nioi-deki with nie-attached gunome-midare, tempered with high peaks, displaying many nie-suji within the ha. It is a magnificent and spirited blade that beautifully captures the essence of Bizen no Kuni Fukuoka Ichimonji, representing a saikou-kessaku (greatest masterpiece) of the swordsmith Kanemasa. This sword has been passed down through an old family for generations, but as they have aged, we have been entrusted to find a new owner who will cherish it.
