Description

Weight: 673g (excluding saya) It has arrived! The author of this wakizashi, Nakayama Ikkansai Yoshihiro, added variations of Soshu-den to the Yamato Hosho-den style. Just as it has been said since ancient times that Soshu-den was born by studying and emphasizing Yamato-den, Yoshihiro specialized in hadamono-kitae that is reminiscent of the master craftsmanship of Soshu-den upper-level smiths, and he is popular as a brilliant master swordsmith of the Bakumatsu period. Yoshihiro was born in Suruga in Kansei 9 (1797) (229 years ago); he later learned the Ecchu Norishige tradition of hadamono-kitae from the swordsmith Noritoshi of Mito in Hitachi Province, perfecting a tsukuri-hada that was unparalleled among swordsmiths of that time. This wakizashi exhibits a goso (magnificent) wakizashi sugata with a thick motokasane, wide motohaba, a distinct difference between the motohaba and sakihaba, and little sori. The jigane is forged in a hadamono style ranging from Yamato Hosho-den to the style of Norishige, displaying chikei and jinie in the ji. The hamon is a nie-deki gunome-ba with sunagashi appearing within the ha, creating a wonderfully attractive and magnificent wakizashi. On this occasion, an elderly connoisseur (sukisha) informed us, "I have grown old, so please pass this attractive wakizashi on to the next generation at a low price," and entrusted it to us. Therefore, we are offering it at a special bargain price. Please enjoy this splendid and precious wakizashi, forged by mixing hard and soft iron, transitioning from Yamato-den into Soshu-den.
