NihontoWatchNihontoWatch江戸時代中後期の紀伊国を代表する貞命(さだなが)の、心象的描法で秋野を想わせる風景が彫り表わされた作。貞命の鍛え肌を活かした鐔には武骨で力強い風合いの作もあるが、ここでは深まりつつある秋の空気感を表わしている。鉄地の耳を打ち返して丸形に仕立て、その耳を景色として画面に連続させている。蔦の絡まる古木は肉高く、遠く連なる山は金銀赤銅の象嵌、足元に露を湛えた笹を平象嵌と露象嵌で描き、繊細な一面を覗かせている

The NBTHK (Nihon Bijutsu Tōken Hozon Kyōkai, the Society for the Preservation of Japanese Art Swords) is a public-interest incorporated foundation founded in 1948 and supervised by Japan’s Agency for Cultural Affairs (Bunkachō); it is based at the Japanese Sword Museum in Tokyo. Its expert panels physically examine each submitted work (shinsa) and issue a certificate (kanteishō) ranking it by artistic and historical merit. NBTHK papers are the most widely recognized standard of authentication for Japanese swords and fittings.
