NihontoWatch昭和四十年十一月三十日誕生の、秋篠宮文仁親王のために高橋貞次刀匠が製作した御守刀と同じ鋼を用い、古式に倣って八寸五分ほどの典雅な姿格好に造り込んだ短刀。手本は遍く知られる粟田口である。平成十八年に誕生した悠仁親王の御守り短刀が、人間国宝（重要無形文化財保持者指定）の天田昭次刀匠の手で鍛えられたことは記憶に新しい。この例のように、歴代の皇室においては、親王がお生まれになった際に守護を目的に天皇陛下から短刀が贈られるという儀式があり、この極めて日本的とも言いうる慣例にあやかり、時代を代表する刀工に写し物を望む数奇者も多い。

Shōwa to the present: destruction and revival
The twentieth century nearly killed the craft twice: wartime distortion, then the occupation ban. The NBTHK’s founding in 1948 and licensed forging from 1953 rebuilt the sword as an art, crowned by Living National Treasures and the mukansa rank.
