It has appeared, it has appeared! An amazing *tanto* has emerged, drawing great attention as the same maker of the beloved sword of Shinsengumi commander Kondo Isami. What made Ashu Ju Yoshikawa Sukeyoshi famous overnight was the fact that his work was the beloved sword of Shinsengumi commander Kondo Isami, accompanying Kondo all the way to Nagareyama in Chiba Prefecture. Sukeyoshi was a man of Awa Province (Tokushima Prefecture). His first *mei* was Akuni Ju Yoshikawa Rokuro Minamoto Sukeyoshi (祐吉), later changing it to Sukeyoshi (祐芳), and he entered the school of Bizen no Kuni Osafune Sukenaga. He was a *hanko* (official clan smith) for the Hachisuka family of the Awa Tokushima domain. This *tanto* is a work from the 2nd year of Keio (1866) (160 years ago) in the Bakumatsu period, created after he finished his training in Bizen and returned to Awa. This was the time when Lord Tokugawa Yoshinobu became the 15th Shogun of the Tokugawa Shogunate. The *sugata* of this *tanto* shows a *hira-zukuri yoroitoshi* style with a thick *moto-kasane* and a distinct difference between the *moto-mihaba* and *saki-mihaba*. The *jigane* is forged in *ko-itame hada*, displaying a powerful steel, and the *hamon* is a continuous *gunome-togari-ba* in *nioi-deki* with *ko-nie*. The *boshi* is tempered in *ko-maru*, showing great skill. Master swordsmith Sukeyoshi is a master craftsman who would have left behind many more works if not for the Haitorei (Sword Abolition Edict) of the Meiji era. The *tanto koshirae* from that period is also precious, adding further elegance to this *tanto* by Master Sukeyoshi. On this occasion, an old connoisseur has requested that this be passed on to the next generation at an affordable price. We are offering this *tanto* by Ashu Ju Yoshikawa Sukeyoshi—currently attracting great attention due to the connection with Shinsengumi commander Kondo Isami—at a special bargain price. Please enjoy it.
