It has arrived! A famous *tanto* by Joshu Hataeda-ju Tomoyoshi, the son of Nankaitaro Tomotaka (Tomotaka), who is well-known even in Touken Ranbu. His father, the famous Nankaitaro Tomotaka, claimed to be the "19th generation descendant of Prince Soncho" and is a master swordsmith praised as "Suishinshi Masahide of the East, Nankaitaro Tomotaka of the West." He is currently appearing as a new character in Touken Ranbu and his popularity is rising. A swordsmith of Tosa, around the Bunsei era of the Edo period (1818, 208 years ago), he went up to Kyoto to serve as a guardian for Iganokami Kanemichi and served as the *aizuchi* (assistant smith) for the court noble Lord Chigusa Arikoto. Despite being a swordsmith, he was also very famous as a scholar, authoring works such as "Token Gogyo-ron," "Shinto Mei Shuroku," and "Hoken Kidan." This *tanto* is a precious work by his son, Tomoyoshi. While it was confirmed that the father, Tomotaka, lived in Iwakura, Kyoto, this *tanto* is a historically valuable document confirming that a forge existed near Hataeda Hachiman-gu in Hataeda-cho, Sakyo-ku, Kyoto City. The *sugata* of this *tanto* displays a magnificent form with a thick *moto-kasane* and wide *moto-mihaba*. The *jigane* is forged in *itame-hada*, with many *chikei* appearing in the *ji*. The *hamon* is a *notare-ba* in *nioi-deki* with thick *nie*, creating a spirited edge. The *tanto koshirae* is also a luxurious mounting from that period, adding further splendor to this *tanto* by the swordsmith Tomoyoshi. On this occasion, an elderly connoisseur told us, "We have grown old, so please pass this on at a low price to someone who will cherish it." Having received it under these circumstances, we are offering this historically precious *tanto* at a special bargain price. Please enjoy it.
