This tanto is a collaboration between the 24th and 25th generations of Fujiwara Kanefusa, both recognized as Important Intangible Cultural Property Holders of Gifu Prefecture. Forged in 1984 (Showa 59), it features a 'Chinkonto Yotetsu' blade made from iron sand from Saipan Island. The tanto comes with an Aogai Mijin-nuri Saya Koshirae and a Kiribako (matching box).

Description

The twentieth century nearly killed the craft twice: wartime distortion, then the occupation ban. The NBTHK’s founding in 1948 and licensed forging from 1953 rebuilt the sword as an art, crowned by Living National Treasures and the mukansa rank.
