Jigane is Ko-mokume-hada, tightly forged. It comes with a Shakui-to Koshirae. Regarding Shakui-to, there were five ranks of nobility: Prince (Duke), Marquis, Count, Viscount, and Baron; the Shakui-to was worn by these individuals on formal occasions. This work was the sashiryo of Baron Fukubara. The Fukubara family originated from Toyonori of the Choshu Domain; he was born as the second son of Yosahyoie, the Kyoto Rusui-yaku. He served in the Kiheitai and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant. He saw action in the Seinan War and served as an infantry company commander in Kumamoto during the Taiwan Expedition. Shakui-to are extremely rare and almost never appear on the market, so this is highly recommended for sword collectors.
