This is an Edo period iron tsuba featuring a relief carving of a dragon deity and a hermit near the border, enhanced with inlay and colored details. It was made by Zensuke Tomotsune, a renowned Chōshū tsuba artisan who was active during the mid-Edo period and served as a retained craftsman for the Mōri clan. The tsuba comes with NBTHK Hozon Tosogu paper.
