The twentieth century nearly killed the craft twice: wartime distortion, then the occupation ban. The NBTHK’s founding in 1948 and licensed forging from 1953 rebuilt the sword as an art, crowned by Living National Treasures and the mukansa rank.
This modern katana by Seishinshi Sadatoshi, made in 1982, features a prominent choji hamon in Bizen tradition. The blade has a slightly wide motohaba and a thin kasane, with a robust cutting edge inherited from his father, Choju. It comes with a koshirae featuring modern fittings and a kyo-sukashi tsuba.
