This tsuba features a chrysanthemum design by the metalworker Sugawara Masatoshi from Mutsu province. The iron tsuba is vertically oval-shaped, with various chrysanthemums arranged across its surface, utilizing sukisage-kebori (sunken relief with hair-line carving) to create a three-dimensional effect for the petals, leaves, and stems. The intricate carving and iron color express the splendor of the chrysanthemums, showcasing Masatoshi's skillful artistry from the late Edo to early Meiji period. It has passed NBTHK Hozon Tosogu certification.
