Title: Nomura-style, Takasago Sukashi Description Yotsu-Mokkou-shaped iron Tsuba with Kozuka & Kougai holes Takasago (高砂) is a congratulatory design where an old couple is portrayed under the old pine tree. This theme is pleased in celebration situation, especially wedding praying being married for many years. This Tsuba is recognized by The Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords, which is known as NBTHK. According to its certificate, this Tsuba’s creator is Nomura Muneaki (野村宗顕). Muneaki lived in Goshu Hikone (江州彦根, today’s Shiga prefecture). He was one of Nomura Kanenori’s disciples. Kanenori was good at making Tsuba that is made from iron or Shakudou (赤銅, the mixture of copper and gold), and engraved people or battlefields with the Takabori Iroe Zougan (高彫色絵象嵌, a type of inlay technique). His works have a similar style to Soten (宗典). As Muneaki learned under Kanenori, it is understandable that we could see a similar taste in this Tsuba. *As this item is an antique, please check each photo and ensure its condition. What is Tsuba?
