【Product Description】 Blade Classification: Wakizashi Mei: Mumei (Den: Enju) Appraisal: NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon Token Nagasa: 37.8 cm Sori: 0.6 cm Motohaba: 3.15 cm Motokasane: 0.65 cm Sakihaba: - Sakikasane: - Mekugi-ana: 2 Weight: 355 g Era: Late Kamakura period Country: Higo Province [Form] Hira-zukuri, mitsu-mune. The mihaba is wide, and the nagasa is slightly long for a sunnobi-tanto. There is a slight sori, and the form is magnificent. [Kitae] Itame-hada with a hint of nagare-gokoro. The hada is well-refined with jinie, and shirake-utsuri appears. [Hamon] Chu-suguha based. The nioiguchi is bright and clear with ko-nie. The habuchi is soft with slight ashi and yo. [Boshi] Sugu with a komaru return. [Koshirae] Black waxed-shiho-nuri saya, wakizashi koshirae. Tsuba: Mokko-gata, tetsu-ji, kage-sukashi. Fuchigashira: Shakudo nanako-ji, autumn insects and grasses design, takabori, iro-e. Menuki: Shakudo, floral design, takabori, iro-e. Kozuka: Shakudo nanako-ji, horse design, takabori, iro-e. [Explanation] The Enju school was founded by Taro Kunimura, the grandson of Rai Kunitoshi, who moved from Yamashiro to Higo Province (Kikuchi-gun) during the late Kamakura period. They served as the exclusive swordsmiths for the Kikuchi clan. Their workmanship closely resembles the Rai school, characterized by a refined jigane with shirake-utsuri and a gentle suguha hamon. This blade is a sunnobi-wakizashi in hira-zukuri style. The jigane shows a beautiful itame-hada with jinie and clear utsuri. The hamon is a classic suguha with a bright nioiguchi, exhibiting the quintessential characteristics of the Enju school. It has been designated as Tokubetsu Hozon by the NBTHK, attesting to its high quality and preservation. The accompanying koshirae is also elegantly finished with high-quality shakudo fittings.
