Description

This is a work by Kanesada, a representative smith of Mino Seki, alongside Kanemoto. The 3rd generation Kanesada, known as 'Hikida' due to his unique signature, is a renowned master from Mino province, with works from the Daiei, Tenbun, and Koji eras remaining. This katana exhibits a typical late Muromachi period form suitable for one-handed use, with a narrow sakihaba compared to motohaba, a short length, and saki-zori. The jigane shows ko-itame hada mixed with masame and mokume, with a slightly whitish appearance. The hamon is a magnificent nie-deki gunome with pointed sections, characteristic of Seki works, displaying a dignified style. The accompanying koshirae is a well-preserved tachi koshirae with a gold nashiji saya, decorated with maki-e and kirikane of the Mitsugai-bishi mon, and all fittings are shakudo nanako with kiri mon, designated as Hozon Tosogu.
