This antique Japanese katana is signed by Masataka, also known as Tenryuji Masataka, a renowned swordsmith from the late Edo period (Tenpo era, 1831-1845 A.D.). The blade has a cutting edge length of 75.0 cm and a curvature of 1.3 cm. It comes with both koshirae mountings and a shirasaya, and is accompanied by an NBTHK Tokubetsu Kicho Certificate for both the blade and the mountings.

This work carries older NBTHK “Kichō”-era papers, which the NBTHK no longer issues and now regards as unreliable. To confirm the attribution, submission to an official Japanese examination body (such as the NBTHK or NTHK) for modern certification could be considered.
