This antique Katana is signed by Igano Kami Minamoto Kanemichi, a smith originally from Yamato province who later moved to Settsu province during the Kanbun era (1661-1673). The blade comes with a Tokubetsu Kicho certificate from the NBTHK, issued in 1968, and is accompanied by Handachi Koshirae. It features a nagasa of 66.6 cm and a sori of 0.6 cm.

For two and a half centuries of peace the sword was the warrior’s legal badge rather than his weapon. Each great city developed its own manner, Edo’s tested strength against Ōsaka’s polished brilliance, until demand thinned in the era’s last decades.
This work carries older NBTHK “Kichō”-era papers, which the NBTHK no longer issues and now regards as unreliable. To confirm the attribution, submission to an official Japanese examination body (such as the NBTHK or NTHK) for modern certification could be considered.
