This is a magnificent and powerful katana by Tsuchiura-shin Nagao Fujiwara Shinkei Tanemitsu, dated Keio 3 (1867). The blade features a wide mihaba, thick kasane, deep curvature, and an impressive length of 82.7 cm. It comes with an interesting koshirae where the tsuba is also signed by Shinkei Tanemitsu, and both the blade and koshirae are certified by the NBTHK.

For two and a half centuries of peace the sword was the warrior’s legal badge rather than his weapon. Each great city developed its own manner, Edo’s tested strength against Ōsaka’s polished brilliance, until demand thinned in the era’s last decades.
