This is a fine katana by Nidai Tadahiro, the second generation master of the Hizen school, active during the early Edo period (Keian era). It features a beautifully forged konuka-hada jihada and a bright chû-suguha hamon in nie-deki. The blade comes with a magnificent set of Higo koshirae from the Middle Edo period, including a tsuba attributed to Nishigaki Kanshirô and fuchi-kashira by Suwa Ikuhira, along with a shirasaya with a sayagaki by Hon'ami Kôhaku.
