This is an extraordinary tachi-length katana attributed to Uda Tomotsugu, an early smith of the Uda school active in the Ôei era (1394-1428). It features a beautifully forged jigane of itame and mokume-hada with masame and chikei, and a bright suguha hamon with rich hataraki. The blade is accompanied by a high-quality Late Edo period koshirae with a unified water theme, including a Ko-Kinkô tsuba and Hamano school fuchi-kashira, both with their own certifications.
