Description

This is an excellent tsuba by the Yokoya school, crafted from shibuichi. The design depicts the 'Shishiji Otoshi' (Lion Cub Dropping), a Chinese legend symbolizing rigorous training and self-discipline, rendered with elegant simplicity. The tsuba features a dynamic portrayal of a parent lion on a cliff and two cubs below, with intricate katakiribori and kebori techniques used to express the lions' manes and the rugged rock faces. The overall composition, with its soft antique patina and substantial weight, creates a profound and dignified aesthetic.
