This is a katana by the modern smith Sugita Yoshiaki, made in 2004 when he was 54 years old. It features a hira-zukuri shape with a shallow sori, and a vibrant midare-utsuri in the jihada. The hamon is a complex mix of shallow notare, gunome, and choji, showing his unique 'naked-yaki' hardening technique. This is a rare long hira-zukuri example of his work, as most of his pieces are shorter.
