The craft survived the Meiji ban and the occupation’s near-extinction, and rebuilt itself deliberately: licensed forging from 1953, traditional methods required by law, Living National Treasures, and the mukansa rank above judgment.
This is a magnificent katana by the Mukansa swordsmith Ogawa Kanekuni, known for his skill in toranba hamon. It features a broad and powerful blade with an expertly crafted choji-midare hamon, making it a rare and valuable piece. While not used for iaido, its robust construction makes it ideal for tameshigiri.
