This is a tachi made by Sadanaga of Unshu, Shimane prefecture. Sadanaga's real name is Kobayashi Rikio, and the Kobayashi family has been involved in iron making and sword smithing in the Okudumo region since the late 18th century. He is one of three brothers who have been working to preserve traditional sword smithing techniques since the 1980s. In 1999, Shimane Prefecture designated Rikio and his brother Sadatoshi as Intangible Cultural Properties.
